Errors on credit history report comes from different sources, from simple human or machine mistakes to inaccurate references on late payments and other negative issues including identity theft causing entries to be out of your control but lowering your overall credit scores.

Disregard how big or small this errors can, all credit reports can be fixed removing most of those negative items which affect your credit history, however disputing errors on credit reports is something not everybody knows how to handle.

The first obvious step is to get your credit report by requesting a copy from one of the three major national credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian and Trans Union. Some other companies may offer you credit history repots but all of them get the information from these companies.

With the report in your hands make a copy and review every item carefully. Then circle every item you are aware is incorrect. All the reports include the address of the issuer along with telephone and fax numbers. Refer to them and contact the agency as soon as possible either in writing, a letter, sending a fax or emailing your copy and concerns.

Make sure to explain one by one each dispute requesting an investigation and offering your help to resolve the issues. Dispute to the creditors whose reporting statements you disagree with and those billing statements, which are incorrect. All procedures are easy if you have the supporting paperwork to prove wrong entries. In such cases, send a copy of tickets, vouchers and any other paperwork with a remark to match the items in dispute.

Your credit is important and it must be handled with basic security measures. Do not send originals of any documentation and always use certified email to have proof in case of later questions. If you are planning to send everything by email, use a software providing encryption and turn on the receipt request besides keeping a copy of the message.

Fax communications also generates printed reports of the sending date and hour, incoming and outgoing telephone numbers, pages sent and successful delivery. When it comes to cleaning up your credit history report all physical and electronic paperwork must be kept until the issue is resolved and later for further reference.
